5 Pro XXL USB - Ports and Bluetooth

Hi…New to the forum. I’ve got a Pro 5 XXL on order and am trying to get ready for it. Can you tell me if the controller has USB ports and if so, what type (A,C, etc) and how many? Also does it have blue tooth capabilities?

Thanks in advance!

Charlie

It only has one USB port that is the printer style (Type B I believe), and the cord comes with the machine. That hooks to a computer via a USB Type A. Then whatever capabilities your computer has from there. Their controller is not a stand alone style and requires a computer to be connected to run the machine. Most people get a cheap Windows tablet like the Fusion 5 on Amazon. I like that set-up with a Rii mini keyboard for jogging.

I bought a 10” touch screen monitor/ raspberry pi case and added a PI 4. I have it mounted with a VESA arm right next to the machine for CM to run on. I really like it, it is very responsive. I added an on screen keyboard for casual entry, but also have a Bluetooth keyboard nearby in case so have to do anything significant.

I added a drawer beneath the table this weekend to get better organized.

Thanks Josh. That clears it up for me. So basicly I need to attach whatever I want to use to the computer controlling the CNC rather thaqn the CNC itself. Makes since. I too want to hook up a wireless keyboard for jogging. Most are overkill but will work.

Thanks for the reponse.

Thank you Cullen. Your barking up the right tree for me. Is the monitor one with a touch screen?

Thanks,
Charlie

Yes, it is an integrated unit but you do have to supply your own Rasperry Pi.

This is what I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B09921BJ8D?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

It shows as currently unavailable now but you could contact the seller to see if it will get restocked. I have seen it come and go. Adding the PI to it requires a little finesse.

I liked it so much I bought a 7” version as a spare but the 10” is def better for my age.

YEP! That’s what I’m after. My design computer is in my wood shop, but it is about 15’ away from where the CNC is going;l thus the need for the display. You’re setup would work great for me. I will look for the display you have and see what they recommend as a substitute if needed.

Thanks again

one last question: looking at the pic of your table… how wide is that. I built mine 60" x 60". Is that what you have?

Mine is 47 deep by 58 wide and 33 tall. But I have the Pro XXL not the 5.
I have a 3” in front of the machine which is a convenient place to put bits, wrenches, etc, but it’s also a convenient place to pile crap. Since taking that picture I have added a full width drawer to put most things after I get my foam inserts cut. I think so am going to put a magnetic strip on the front of the drawer to stick the wrenches since they are always in use.

ok, I thought that I might have gotten by with a slightly smaller table, but built it 60x60. I am still probably two weeks out from receiving the machine, also an 5 Pro XXL. I went ahead and got the spindle kit as I sometimes like to cut aluminum and did ok with the router, but wanted to see what the spindle would do for me. Expensive experiment, but no one told me this was a cheap hobby.

Yep. I keep trying to talk myself into the spindle but figure I still have some learning to do first.

Your 60"x60" table will BARELY fit a SO5 Pro 4x4. Mine is 62" wide and 60" deep and it fits with an inch or so on each side.

Well if need be, I can add a 1.5 x .75" hardwood edge board. The top is 1.5" thick.

60"x60" is definitely going to be the minimum size you want. I made mine 62"x62".

Received my SO5Pro 4X4 yesterday and finished putting it together today. Still need to add the dust collection and clean up the wires.
