5Pro Lube Advice

Got all the bearing assemblies lubed as shown in several places on the web and here. However hit a wall when finding specifics about what to do with the screw drives. Besides putting grease on the screws that move the gantry and HDZ, is there anything else I should be doing? I have noticed it is starting to make a high pitched noise when going corner to corner that did not occur when I got it a year ago. Not sure if that’s a lube issue or just how it sounds. No issues with cut accuracy. Just want to ensure I’m doing proper maintenance and not missing anything. Thanks in advance.

They make this kit specifically for the machine:

Pretty sure they do not want you using grease on any of it.

EDIT: Found their maintenance guide:

Thanks for the reply. I’ve got the kit and read the file prior. The confusion is from C3d itself. They have a youtube video from their team with an older machine but same ballscrew system and they recommend grease. The file says oil but admits is an open ballscrew. Is there a way to open that open up and clean it properly?

The noise is coming from the motor that moves the gantry along the Y axis.

Not sure but that sounds like a different issue than lubing the screws, possibly a bad bearing. I would take the motor off and try spinning the motor coupler by hand and try spinning the motor by hand. See if one or the other feels for lack of a better word “wrong” when you spin them. Like something being tight or grinding or jamming.

I will say that when I got my 4x4 5 Pro setup it had this awful high pitched whin when homing. When I slowed it down the whining stopped. Come to find out it was some sort of resonance frequency issue where the whole carriage was vibrating just right when I homed. I changed the homing speed in GRBL and that stopped it.

What about the “ballscrew support bearing”, described on the HDM as * Dual Angular Contact Bearings to lock down each screw. Do these need oil or are they sealed on the SO5 Pro?
