65 mm spindle vs basic carbide router

I’m considering upgrading to the 65 mm router for my XXL 4 . The question is can I be a little more aggressive with this system than with the bacis router. Thanks

I believe you mean 65mm VFD spindle vs. Carbide Compact Router.

We hashed that out pretty thoroughly previously:

I will note that the ER-11 Carbide Compact Router is on sale now:

so if that seems a good value for folks might be worth grabbing, esp. if considering moving up to a VFD spindle later.

Belt driven machines are limited by the belts. An SO4 has wider belts but is still limited for aggressive cuts but you can get better performance with a spindle over a trim router. The most talked about benefit of the spindle is the noise level. Trim routers tend to whine more than spindles.

I just upgraded to the air cooled spindle on my SO5 and it was definitely worth it! You can definitely take deeper passes without bogging down the spindle.

Given that there is no current sale season elsewhere does this indicate that there is a new revision/ potentially improved bottom bearing coming?

No idea, I’m not involved in the financial end of things, and if/when I am involved in product testing I am not authorized to speak about it.

Ask the folks in Sales — they might be able to share something.
