65mm Spindle Fix

Recently bought the shapeoko 5 pro second hand it came with the 65mm spindle after using it for a few weeks the threads on the spindle have been stripped/damaged and I can’t use it anymore.

C3D won’t replace since it’s out of the 12 month window anyone know what size tap and die set I would need to fix it

This is what I use when I mess up my thread. McMaster-Carr . Not sure about the thread pitch on the 65mm spindle but a quick google search shows an M22x1.5 thread. Turn your spindle on as slow as it will rotate and run the file along the threads. This has saved me a few times.

I would be a bit nervous trying to file threads at 8000 rpm.

Don’t install a bit.

Not sure about the 65mm, but the 80mm will run at 1200rpm for an edge finder. I’ve even run it at 5-600rpm for a short time to use the thread file.

The 80 mm spindle doc says 8k → 24K just like the 65 mm.

Did I miss the boat somewhere ? I would love to run an edge finder.

I can’t say I used the command line to try this.
