A little something to look forward to for Grbl 1.1

Way cool LCD developments!

Very interesting! But would this work with the Shapeoko boards? Looks like you need your Grbl machine to be running from and Arduino-based controller board (or maybe the one from Shapeoko is and I don’t know it).

Yes, the Carbide Motion Machine Control Boards have an Arduino built into them, so this will work on the machines, and it should afford some really nice integration with Carbide Motion and the other machine control software apps.

Sounds like a perfect candidate for mounting in a dust collection/sound proofing enclosure. I’m getting ready to start that build, so I’m going to have to keep this in mind. Also sounds like this setup would allow for integration of input methods like buttons, so some kind of built-in pendant control might be worth looking into.

Edit - For instance, I’ve been eyeballing this:

Yeah. I have a Smoothieboard (Panucatt x5 mini v2) with a Viki 2 LCD on my 3D printer, and it’s really nice having the all-in-one unit which allows direct control and the jog wheel.

That said, I did get a Contour Design Shuttlexpress: http://ergo.contourdesign.com/US/product/shuttlexpress/ which while not as nice as the unit you linked, is quite serviceable (and I was fortunate to get a bargain on eBay) and it’s very cool to use, though I wish that other comm / control apps would directly support it as Chilipeppr does. Esp. since my main reason to buy the thing was to support modifier keys in Macromedia FreeHand and there’s one which I need which doesn’t work (so I had to get an Azio Levetron Mech5 keyboard for its D-pad).
