A couple weeks ago I posted a Hawaiian Kapa themed paradise box (First real project: Hawaiian-Themed Paradise Box) made out of mahogany. At that time I mentioned that I had some left-over mango and that I might try one with that. It’s expensive and it took a lot of nerve, but I’ve done it.
I don’t think that it’s a good use of the mango because the pattern disappears in the spalting, but I happened to have some left over from something else and couldn’t figure out what to do with it, so I tested it on a box. It took up all but about a foot of the mango I had, so there were no do-overs–I couldn’t go back to the wood guy and spend my allowance on another piece of mango just so I could do the bottom again. Scared the hell out of me. I’m waiting for the hinges from Amazon.
