A New Dust Shoe - "Dust Jet"

very interesting design , exactly what I was looking for. like most on the forum , i’m using the suckit , but that’s using way too much extra space on Y. keep us posted on the progress pls.
cheers

Hey @davidgjohnson, any update or is jury duty going longer than expected?

I was reading through the comments and came across yours and thought Id share this lol.
Funny how I thought about not wanting to lose my new found x travel with the hdz so I, like you said, mounted my dust shoe from the rear of the z axis. I have made a few projects with it to prove it out. Its certainly not as visually pleasing as the “Dust Jet” but it seems to work well  Dont mind the 1.5" thick wasteboard haha… I bolted it on there to give me lots and lots of resurfacing.

It seems to me that a combination of these ideas would be an ideal mix!

Colaboration opp?

One thing I’d like to see on more Z-axis updates: Better support for an integrated dust shoe. It should be built right into the axis. Give us something to which we can connect/adjust.

Also (okay we’re up to two things): Rows of wheels. While two up, two down? How about four up and four down. Each additional set of wheels is just doing to provide some additional stability.

@davidgjohnson that’s such a slick looking design, I reckon putting the mount on the front side, but offset enough to be able to get at the collet would be ideal. I also drew up some designs that weren’t too different to this (only different in that they were not nearly as polished or slick!)

where do you find the tube? all I can find in a similar diameter is PVC pipe which would work fine but Clear would be a cooler look and lighter

I bought transparent tubing in polycarbonate a while back — had to get a 6’ length.

I believe it was from eplastics, but a lot of vendors come up on a search: https://www.eplastics.com/polycarbonate/clear-tube

Amazon has some in 12" lengths

That looks great! I like the barbell clamp idea, really ingenious.

I didn’t see the design up or the kits on your site yet. I assume it’s because you posted it so recently. I’ll wait and watch when they do.
