Not sure if this is where to post but I was hoping someone could give me guidance working with the T slot aluminum rails.
Has anyone used the Shapeoko to mill pockets into the T slot rails? I’m trying to secure a bearing and standard pillow block are too large. I need the rod to rotate as close to the bottom of the jig as possible so I think a barrel needle bearing will give me the lowest profile. Problem is securing the bearing to the jig. If I use extruded aluminum T slot rails the jig should be easy to square (very important) but I need to figure out a way to secure the bearings. I’m thinking of drilling pockets into the slots but i’m not sure if that would work. I was hoping someone has done something like this before.
If this doesn’t work I guess i’ll use solid stock aluminum but i’m concerned I won’t be able to get the jig 100% square. This will not be carrying any meaningful load, it just needs to be square and freely roll.
Any suggestions?
