Acrylic Display Case

Hey all,
I bought a few statues im thinking of building display boxes for out of clear acrylic sheets. Statues are quite large, roughly 24’ tall, 17’ wide’ 10’ deep. Just curious what you guys think would be the best way to put this together? Design interlocking panels was my first thought. Ive tried just gluing acrylic before but it dosnt look very nice.

How did you glue the acrylic? The best method is using the water-thin monomer via a syringe. Make your edges as square and smooth as possible, abut them and apply the “glue” to the joint. The monomer will migrate into the joint by capillary action and set up almost instantly. It takes a little practice to not trap bubbles, otherwise the joint will be mostly invisible.

I’ve used CA glue in the past to glue acrylic but with clear acrylic it didn’t look great. I’m not familiar with monomer, it’s a different type of adhesive?

Not an adhesive in the ordinary sense. Acrylic is a polymer, long chains of identical building blocks called monomers. Rather like DNA is a long chain of nucleotides. The substance I refer to is the monomer, likely including something that catalyses its incorporation. When you’re done, the pieces aren’t glued together, they are chemically fused into one larger polymer. More like welding than gluing.

For starters, search " Weld-On 3" or “Weld-On 4”. Be sure to get the “applicator bottle” which has a needle applicator. [It appears Weld-On may hav acquired the name SciGrip so look for either.]

I appreciate you explaining that, thanks.
