Acrylic Ink pouring on etched acylic

I am making topo maps using the Topomiller data.

As always I am putting too much detail for the given sheet size.
I tried to paint the grooves using regular acrylic paint ( thinned with water ).

The sheet is white and the paint is black. It worked ok, but I wiped some of the paint out of the grooves and got a grey tone and soften some edges.

I found there is acrylic ink. I was thinking of pouring the ink onto the sheet and wiping it off.

Has anyone tried this ?

Thanks

Ok, I tried it. I reduced the number of contours to some point. These are 40m high cuts.

I used a 9" speedball squeegee ( I am going to cut it in half ). The cleaning process is elbow grease with the squeegee for the best fill and smooth surface removal.

I initially did not press the ink into the grooves enough and used up a lot of paper towels.
I had gray areas and hot spots.

I went back and touched up medium size areas and found the technique. A shorter squeegee is better, allows more pressure. I used a 65 durometer squeegee, the recommended is 70 to 75.
I will probably go there.

Not a lot of paper towels. Some damp wiping.

These are looking incredible Jim. If I didn’t have so many other things going on (and plenty in the todo), I’d jump on board. I suppose the benefit of getting to sit back and watch you work is that I don’t need to figure anything out myself when the time finally comes to make some

Thanks again for sharing your process :beers:
