Acrylic LED Signs - Edge Finish

Planning to make my first acrylic LED sign. I’ve heard that you should polish the signs cut edges to improve light transmission. True? If so, what are best methods used to polish up the sign edges.

Thanks in advance for any help. Pete

Flame polishing is quick/easy.

You can also sand it smooth (200 grit +) if needed and mist it with acetone.

thanks for info. I will do that, starting with a practice piece…

Okay, first I will sand, then flame polish. Feedback appreciated.

If it’s already pretty smooth, like a nice clean cut from a milling tool, no need to sand. If it’s faceted or serrated or has chips or rough edge, sand it first. Flame or acetone will melt the top ~0.005" and cause it to harden smoother.
