Alignment of Y axis

Continuing the discussion from About the Shapeoko 4 category:

I think this indicates that the bed is not square. Measure the diagonals across the bed (measuring from the ends of the ‘Y’ rails, not on the bed itself), if they are not equal there’s probably things you can try.

Does this mean I need to take the machine apart including the wasteboards to re-adjust for square as in the assembly process. With all the wasteboards locked into place it is hard to belive that the one jam could cause it to be 1/4 inch out of square.

First, add this to your first post:
after a guide pulley fell off the z axis, when I pull the gantry forward the left side hits but the right side with the bit setter still has 1/4 inch to go. how do I correct this?

You don’t have to disassemble the machine to check the squareness. You may have to remove the Y axis covers if you can’t measure the corners of the extrusions. Or you could draw a line on the table with the machine & check it for square to the extrusions. If it’s that far out of square, then you will need to remove the spoilboard & at least loosen the table to adjust it.

When I set up my HDM I just checked the crossmembers under the table were square to the Y extrusions with a master square.
