All done with my new enclosure!

I’m finally done with my new enclosure. I worked with a family friend at a cabinet company to build it. Here is a list of all the details.

Shapeoko 4XL

  1. The cabinet is built out of 3/4" laminated MDF, with an overall size of 60x34x30.
  2. Sitting atop a U-Line packing table
  3. Festool CT15E with a Oneida Dusty Deputy
  4. Wali monitor mount from Amazon holding an inexpensive 23" LG 1080p display
  5. M1 Mac mini with a Sabrent under desk mount
  6. Huanuo adjustable keyboard tray
  7. Light panel from Lowes, wired to a lamp cord
  8. 3D modeled and printed dust collection hose flange
  9. 3D modeled and printed magnetic tool holder
  10. Inexpensive smart light bar from Lowes to light up the router when changing endmills
  11. Cut and painted a few hooks to hold the dust collection hose
  12. 1/4" acrylic panels glued into the window openings with silicone
  13. And finally, a Bitrunner V2 with the Etoolcity automatic vacuum switch

I’m sure there will be things I did incorrectly, but I’m very happy with the result and looking forward to cutting my next job on it.

Great Job!

Is that a camera I see in the upper back left corner?

looks like a Wyze Cam. I have one on mine as well. inexpensive and effective.

Thanks I appreciate that!

Yes it is! As the other person mentioned it is in fact a Wyze cam. I leave it off until I start a cut, just in case I step away briefly. I try not to run many cuts without being in the room. But I’ll also take photos occasionally and share them with clients when I begin their order

Looks great! well done.

What method did you use to make your doors? Did you make cope and stick doors or some other method. I am going to make a 3’ x 3’ door and have the Freud Adjustable Rail and Stile bits and will be making extended tenons. Just curious how you make your doors since they are quite large. Like you I was intending to put 4 hinges on.

You’ll have to pardon my ignorance, as I have no idea what most of those terms mean! :expressionless:

I actually worked with a friend who makes commercial cabinetry, mostly for the medical industry, to build this. Because of the size of the doors, there are 4 soft closing hinges. I initially really wanted the door to open above with hydraulic lifts or a rail, but he said that single door would’ve been way too heavy. These stay in place so I’m very happy with them!

How much sound reduction do you get with those doors?

Well, I will be honest, I didn’t really build it for sound reduction, but it does quiet down the router noise a bit. But my dust collector is really the most noise made and it’s just on the floor below. I am adding some rubber gasket to the interior of the door to stop any dust or debris from getting out of the space between the housing and the doors though.

I am searching for ideas for my shop… where do you store your bits?

Well long term all endmills are in a little clear plastic toolbox and stored nearby in a cabinet with other tools.

But I also modeled and printed a little bin for current bits in use.

You mounted that Spindle Enable button on the inside of your enclosure? That would be inconvenient for me. I always disengage and reengage that when doing bit changes just in case the gremlins in the machine decide it should spin up at an inopportune time.

Sometimes I forget to reengage until the router is headed back over to make the next cut. Having to open the door to hit that button would take too long for me.

Yeah, but it’s just stuck with a few 3m Velcro strips. I’ll be honest, I almost always start my cut with the doors open, then close them when things are off to a good start. I’ve not had any issues thus far.

It looks pretty air-tight. If the dust collection is running & removing air, where does the fresh air get in? i.e. you may not need to seal the doors as long as you are using the dust collection.

There is actually a gap all around the doors as well as the holes drilled throughout for cable passthrough, so it doesn’t have any problems with the vac and being too air tight.
