Just wanted to share as it’s been a long time sense I posted anything. My father passed away last week which was pretty sad, but thankfully, before he did I was able to fly back home and be with him.
I flew back, made his box (about 18hrs), then drove back to South Dakota with my family to be at the funeral.
Pretty special guy to say the least, and he would have loved the box. I put him in the ground with it, and wouldn’t have it any other way.
Made of Quilted Maple and Purple Heart, with an assortment of different burled veneers for the marquetry.
Great job but sorry to hear. Being able to focus while working on that must have been very tough.
My mother in law passed away earlier this year and I offered to make a box for her remains. One of her other daughters bought multiple really cheap crap boxes so that the girls could distribute.
Oh well.
Very nice urn. I just finished and delivered an urn for a friend. He was in a cardboard for several years until I found about it and made this urn with a bronze threaded ring. I delivered it Saturday and transferred his ashes in and sealed the threads with removable locktite. I doubt the urn will ever be opened. My friend’s sister was very appreciative of my effort for my friend.
A very fitting urn to celebrate your father’s life.
That box/urn is CRAZY nice! The quilted maple is absolutely gorgeous. Did you laser cut the pieces for the marquetry top? And what is that finish you used?
Maurice,
So sorry for your loss, this was a fitting tribute to your loving father. Watching the pictures it is apparent he was a craftsman also and you have continued his legacy with the craftmanship you exhibit…
Sorry to hear of your loss and I wish you and your family all the best as you grieve. Your tribute to your father is amazing as all your work is. He was blessed to have a son like you!
Sorry for your loss. Your dad looked like a man with many interests and talents. Best instructional video, that made me tear up a bit. Looks like you are carrying the torch. Stay frosty.
