Assembly Problem - Missing Cable

Having a hell of a time putting together my shapeoko 5.1

The instructions aren’t great. I am stuck on 9.2 - Installing the Spindle cable.

I do not have a spindle cable. I checked all the boxes a few times over. There is nothing in my packages that has a cable that looks like the cable in the picture.

Any advice anyone? Is there a backup cable they send you?

I have emailed support@carbide… wondering if anyone can give me advice here

thanks

I do not have a 5.1 but have been part of the community for a while and from other experiences i have read (assuming you did order a spindle) the spindle ships separate, are you sure you recieved everything you ordered? Again just trying to help

well that would explain it… I didnt order the spindle. I thought the router came with it as a default. Clearly that is not the cause. Ok, so I want to move from wood to aluminum, so I might as well as buy a spindle. Is this one decent or is there another people suggest?

Carbide 3D 65mm VFD Spindle Kit - 110V

I have the Pro 5.1 4x2 - in hindsight, I should have bought the 4x4… oh well.

now I am looking at the: Carbide 3D 80mm VFD Spindle Kit 220V - I am thinking horsepower… this should be better for wood and aluminum since it is double the voltage.

Is this a good spindle? reviews? advice?

How thick are the materials you plan to cut?

Probably nothing more than 2 " thick.

I came across this person’s test video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VAyytVlFMg&t=78s

I think I have my answer… going with the 80 mm 220V

If you have the 220V outlet, and the extra cost isn’t a problem, the 80mm spindle is great.

This is residential in Toronto, Canada. So, no I just have 120V outlets (normal residential outlet).

I never thought about that… so I would have to upgrade my outlet?

If you have 110V then the 65mm VFD is the way to go. We updated it last year to take ER-16 collets, which gets you 3/8” tooling. That’s pretty solid, and you’ve got a lot more versatility in terms of where you can plug it in.

@ddhanoa i will have to back out of the spindle question as i do not have one so cant speak to it, i also only do wood or etching and could help with aluminum! Glad i could help earlier!

Hi, Im in Barrie and definitely vouch for the service from Carbide 3d. They have been awesome when any issue comes up. If you do choose the 80mm spindle just keep in mind its water cooled which needs another 110v in addition to the controller. I love my 5 pro

@Oderusone - I went with the 65mm 110V spindle since I am running this out of my garage and dont have the voltage to spare. Barrie? We are neighbours. Do you run a shop out of barrie?
