Assembly question(s)

Question 1 - x-motor to z-plus

Starting on assembly now that I made a new base board.

Page 19 of the regular XL instructions states X motor with label down, picture shows cables exiting to the right.

V1.0 of the addendum, page 6 states place the motor with the label up. No associated picture so I’m not sure which way the cables should point.
Which is correct?

Orientation doesn’t really matter so long as the wiring will reach.

Second question - on the Z-Plus should the screw go into the bottom limit barrel nut thing or be separate?

I lined mine up so it could pass through it easily.

The hole is only there to ease fitment, it’s nice to have it lined up as @rcamber has, but it doesn’t necessarily have to touch.

Another question.
On page 26 of the guide, the Y2 rail shows two holes towards the middle on the centerline.

My Y2 does not have these drilled or tapped.

Two questions

  1. what are those for and should they be on mine?
  2. if yes to the above, can I get the measurements (coordinates) and thread pitch (M6 or M4, or other) for the holes?

I want to drill and tap them prior to installing if they are needed so I can use the drill press

  1. the holes are for the BitRunner accessory and are a recent addition — if your machine isn’t very recent it won’t have them.

  2. M6 x 1.0 if you’re planning on getting a BitRunner.

Thanks Will.
I just got my machine in March (I think) and did just pick up the bit runner.
Any particular location for these or just wherever?
Spacing?

This should be covered in the instructions for the BitRunner:

centered on the right Y-axis rail is what I recall.

Thanks Will, I wound up putting the holes towards the rear of the machine.

Another question
Page 11 from the supplement for z-plus figure A-6 shows a tail bracket and support bracket on Y1.
My Y1 only has the hole for the tail bracket and not the support, however the bag of parts came with the support.

(References page 43…but that isn’t where I am in the XL assembly guide on page 37)

Is this still needed, and if yes where should it go?

We currently have two different drag chain mounting/management systems:

  • the original steel brackets as used with belt drive and HDZ systems
  • the new aluminum brackets bundled with Z-Plus systems

either works, and I’m actually using a hybrid of both.

Post a photo or send it in to support@carbide3d.com and we’ll do our best to walk through this with you.
