I’m wondering where I can find a list of the most common questions and questions with the most answers? Before I post redundant questions that have already been asked, I thought I’d look at those.
And anyone know why is there a 30 day limit on questions? I mean, if a related answer and additional questions comes up, then asking the question again may be redundant, right?
I find using the search feature accomplishes finding the best and most answers to questions pretty useful. As far as the 30 day shut down, I too find that a bit too restrictive. But you can also link it to your new topic.
We’ve found that old topics, when responded to long after their creation (necro-posting) creates a distorted representation which is not helpful — it’s almost always best to start fresh from a current take on the situation as it is.
@Julien was putting together a list of the most useful threads:
(which now, at four years old, shows the afore-mentioned problem)
Search can work well, and if one can’t find what one is looking for, just ask — we’ll either find one or more relevant posts, or research it with you.
If there is truly a need to re-open an existing topic ask and we can look into that, but ideally, the trajectory would always be forward, and it’s usually best just to include a link to the previous discussion to frame the new one.
You will also find that certain users are often “pros” in their responses so sometimes (not too often) I add a user to my search as I know that person has probably been involved at some point (cough, cough - he’s in this thread )
A couple of thoughts on the 30 day closure - has there been a vote with the community? I’d venture to guess that most people would consider a question that’s only 6 months old may still be relevant and helps avoid duplicate questions.
@brew As for the most FAQ (aside from those directly related to Shapeoko), newer users often don’t know what to search for (ie they don’t know what they don’t know)!
