I found past requests for a maintenance video instead of written guidance for bearing and ball screw upkeep. Have not found anything since the October 2023 request. Is there even written with pictures available? I don’t want to do something that would cause more pain than help.
Thanks for the note but I have reviewed all that material. The video mentions exactly 4 z axis bearing blocks that are on the 5 pro and doesn’t show how to access the lower 2. Do I remove any covers or plates to access other z, x, or y bearing blocks to use the oil ports? Do I just oil the linear x and y rails as in the video instead of adding oil to those bearing blocks?
An updated video of the 5 pro would be most helpful for those of us that are new to the machine and learning its upkeep - as well as how to operate it.
Just confused and want to do the maintenance correct. Appreciate any help.
My 5 Pro had loose oil port screws and one actually fell out while cutting a project. The oil port screw was on the lower right bearing block on the Z axis. These screws are very close to the upper bearing blocks and so I cut the short end of a 2.5mm allen wrench short enough to fit into the screw head and allow me to unscrew, fill the bearing block with oil and replace the screw. Support suggested removing the Z mounting plate assembly with the bearing block attached, flip it upside down and access the port screw on the bottom side of the lower bearing block. Support also said that if you can get the upper screw out of the lower bearing blocks oil should flow through to the bottom half of the block assembly and fully lubricate the entire bearing block. So far I’ve had no issues but I did tighten all of the oil port screws after finding them all loose.
I saw a post from someone a while back with a procedure that I have adopted and like. Remove the screws holding the upper bearing blocks and sledge them up but put an Allen wrench or scre through the top holes but where the engage the bottom holes on the upper blocks. Then getting access to the upper oil port screws on the lower blocks is easy.
I probably didn’t make sense there, but it keeps you from having to remove the Z plate.
Yep. That is the process I use and it was your post that inspired me. It’s waay easier than removing the Z plate and doesn’t require re tramming when done.
I’m lazy. I have a syringe I got off of Amazon with a small tube attached to the output. I just put a plastic tray under the Z axis, open the bottom oil port, and inject until it spills out. Then quickly put the cap screw back on.
Want to thank all the replies and truly appreciate the help. Personally, I’m using Ed’s suggested method. Is there a way for all these methods to be kept in a quick access tab so folks in the future don’t have to keep asking for the guidance repeatedly? Apologies if that currently exists and I don’t know the process to find it.
