BEGINNER. Please help clarify Max Depth

Hi,

First time on this forum, and a very new desktop CNC user.

I am a bit confused on the difference between Max Depth (D) and the Depth Per Pass setting in the edit tool.

I thought the Max Depth (D) was how much the bit drills into the material.

If that the case, then what is the Depth Per Pass for?

Also, what is the stepover for?

If anyone has visuals, that would be a great help also.

Max Depth is the total depth of the cut.

Depth per Pass is how much the machine will move down at a given time.

Stepover is how much the machine will move over to the side when cutting a pocket.
