I have a shapeoko3 XL that I bought in 2018 and was partially assembled, just the table frame, and the movers dropped the it from about 5 feet up and it got bent. Is there anything I can do to fix? I asked about ordering a new talble, but was told that the “only thing you can carry over to a Shapeoko 4 is your spindle from the purchase of your 3”.
I’ve never used the machine as I moved overseas not long after receiving it.
Any advice would be helpful, thanks.
Which part got bent?
It’s at the very end of the longer edge of the table, right at the “L” where it goes vertical. i don’t see that I can attach a photo of it here
When you are replying use this to upload.
You can also just copy and paste the picture.
Maybe you could modify what Full Steam design did when they made the Frankenpoko.
Just shorten up the aluminum extrusions. I bet he could get you the CAD file so you could have the endpieces machined locally.
Will shipping insurance cover purchasing an SO4 as a replacement?
The only other options are:
- try hammering the dent out
- cut across the dent, straighten things, and weld a dutchman in place to cross the resultant gap
- drill new holes using the other endplate as a template — you’d need to work up a system to hold the belt anchor bolt in place for want of the PEM nut
- replace this part of the structure in some way as described above
I don’t know if we have any replacement parts — unfortunately the end plates would have been provided new w/ an XL/XXL upgrade, so aren’t a part which anyone would be likely to have to spare.
Ok, thanks for the input everyone.
I think I would try a vise, clamps, or hammer on it. You may need to overbend it a bit to get it back to straight. Some spacers strategically placed should do the trick.
Start out small with the spacers & work your way up until it’s flat.
