Best way to repair a failed inlay

I’m looking for advice on how I can repair a failed inlay and salvage my project. Something went wrong and I did not properly seat the inlay. As a result, I have major gaps. Has anybody ever tried running the inlay process over top of a failed inlay? I’m thinking that I may increase the size of the specific design element in my project maybe 25% larger. I feel confident that I have a good process for accurate XY recreation and can get the pocket to carve over top of the failed inlay.

Any advice or alternative ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Personally I’d try recutting if I thought I could do it. Could always make it larger if necessary
.

I repaired a failed inlay once by pocketing out the area where the inlay was supposed to be and inlaying a contrasting colored wood as a repair plug. When that set up I reran my inlay project in the new repair plug.
