In order to subtract something, you must have a block to subtract from:

It is then possible to select the geometry which one wants subtracted:

and choose Merge type: Subtract

To then assign toolpaths one has two options:

  • select the geometry which defines only the region one wishes to work with:

and assign 3D toolpaths to that:

Or offset around the entire 3D model:

Apply

and use 3D toolpath to cut the entire design out:
