Bit Zero won't recognize

It’s been a few months since my last carve and for some reason I can’t get my Bit Zero to work properly. When I probe it goes left then right and when it comes back towards me I get probe failed. I’ve cleaned all parts with alcohol (BZ, bit, collar, magnetic lead is clean and free of debris) What am I missing?

Check which version you choose. There is a v1 and a v2. Each version operates differently. In the latest versions of CM you have to go through setup and you choose the version. In the older versions in the configuration you set up v1 or v2 BitZero.

To verify the BitZero is working just touch the magnet to the BitZero and the light should turn from green to red. If the light does not change or is not lit then you have a connector and/or electronics problem.

I have the V2, and just did an update on version

It’s been a while, how do I configure the V2?

After editing my above comment I dont think the v2 has an led. So open CM and connect but do not initialize. Then go to Settings and you will see any active inputs. Put your magnet on the BitZero and you should see the connection.

If you update to the latest CM on the first initialization it goes through a configuration by default and you choose all your options. If you want to use your older CM then go into the jog and start a probe and it says what version of BitZero it is going to use. The V1 and V2 are different in height and other ways. So it is important to get the correct version selected.

Just make sure it is actually operational in the settings before going through a lot of set up.

It is possible during the idle time that something got unplugged.

Thank you, it seems to only have an issue with 1/16 bits and all others work fine…Weird.

You are supposed to use the 1/4” probing pin with the V2, not a bit I believe. Maybe a bit is supported as well?

I have the V1 but use a pin instead of a bit anyway.

You can use a tool, but it may not be as accurate — depends on the # of flutes and their geometry — a probing pin, since it is truly round (w/in the precision/accuracy of the rod) is preferable.
