I was surfacing my XL wasteboard and removed the BitSetter to avoid hitting it with fly bit. After surfacing I rolled xl outside to blow it off. I must have blown it away. After thorough search it is lost.
What do you recommend I use to replace it? The recess is .45 inch(11.5mm) .041 inch(1.05mm) deep.
I went online to find some and they dont seem to have 11MM so I ordered some 10MM x 2MM from amazon. So I got 80 coming for about $13.00. Seems like you may need a few now and then. I use rare earth magnets from time to time any way. Went through my collection and some of them were losing their chrome plating.
I would think you’d have to be sure whatever you use is dead flat. Variances would change the accuracy of the bitsetter with different diameter bits, yes? I would think that flat is more important than size. Is that right?
Gary you are likely right but I need something to put in place. It was a good idea for Carbide3D to make the replaceable top but I never thought the top would fly off so easily. So for effort I give a A and for results I give a C. Those rare earth magnets are mass produced and the small variances in surface height will not make any difference to my work. I am not building any space craft to go into orbit or beyond to the stars. The Carbide3d store does not have any replacement caps for the BitSetter. It was my fault the cap went flying so I dont expect C3D to replace it. I will just have to make due.
Those are usually pretty darn flat and consistent.
I also added a small piece of Nitto double sided tape to the bottom of the top magnet to keep me from blowing it across the room or sticking to the setting pin.
