BitSetter proximity sensor not working - Shapeoko Pro

Hi all, I just received my Shapeoko Pro, 2 days ago. I’m super excited putting it together and getting to be apart of this community. I thought I was finally done with the assembly and began to initialize the machine. homing worked great-ish. I think I have some belt tensioning issues in Y. I did notice a bigger problem though. My bitsetter proximity sensor does not work. The router just drives the bit down into the setter without stopping.

I have doubled checked the wiring three times. It seems the sensor is a dud. I even tried powering 5 volts directly to the sensor and could not get a signal from it. Has anyone else experienced this issue and know how to help?

Check the wiring on the bit setter.
Had a problem with mine when i got it.

Wiring is backwards on the bit setter. Switch the blue and black wires on the connector at the bit setter. Easiest way is to just file off the little tab that only allows the plug to go in one way and flip the connector over.
To test the bit setter
Open Carbide Motion
Click on Connect to Cutter
Click on Settings
Look on the bottom of the screen where it says no active pins
Press the bit setter button and the “No Active Pins” should change to “Probe”.
If it doesn’t the wiring is incorrect on the bit setter.
I had the same issue with mine and i had to switch the two wires connected to the bit setter.
Either switch the wires or just file off the small tab on the bit setter connector and just flip the connecter over

Guess it could be a bad switch also. But mine was just the wiring

I highly recommend contacting Carbide3D’s support before you do anything destructive like filing down a connector. They have always been super helpful for me. Sometimes it might take a few days to find the root cause of the issue, but it is far better than making issues worse by removing something that is intended to prevent you from miswiring your machine.
