Hey, so I’m SOOOO close to finalizing a new design for some signs, but need a shortcut to make it past the last hurdle.
What I’m wanting to do is to use the Boolean Subtract feature on a series of Polylines. This will enable me to utilize the contour toolpath to run non-ramped carves on the lines. A series of these will enable me to create a different woodgrain look to match the existing signs.
On the design page you can see what I’m trying to accomplish. On the Toolpaths page, you can run the simulation and see that I am leaving a recessed border around the letter and outline. Close, but not close enough.
I have been using CC since v3. CC has come a long way and there are many many features and sometimes there are so many you dont even know exist. The trim command is very useful and easy to use to get shapes into what you want. Thanks to the development team that keeps improving CC. @robgrz
So…you know what would be REALLY handy is to be able to hold shift or something (or just hold down the left click button) and every line you cross over would erase. That would save me literally 80% of my time as I’m removing the lines (I have approximately 100 to do per sign and each click, while just a little bit of time, adds up). Is that a feature? If not, I want to change this topic to a feature request
Probably the fastest general delete mechanism I’ve ever seen was in FontLab v1 — left and right-click in succession on a node and it vanished — the intent was to facilitate cleaning up auto-traced scans.
Almost as fast was using the eraser button on a stylus in FutureWave SmartSketch and its successor Flash.
Unfortunately, Wick Editor does not seem to detect the pen switching to an erase, so one has to manually select that tool:
That said, deletion in Trim Vectors, since it is a dedicated mode for that is just a click, and deleting nodes when Node Editing is click-to-select and press d which is about as fast.
