Boolean subtract

I have read multiple threads, watched half dozen videos and got it to work on part of my design. However trying to join the inner circle and the bars will not work. I select the inner circle then the name bar and hit boolean subtract (trying to remove the parts that spill over the circle) nothing.
One video says to make a copy then shadow over select then subtract (squadoosh) that doesn’t work.

So I am lost and I know once I try to add the underlying G to tie it all together that will be a nightmare.

Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong? I am attaching copy of the file for reference…

Ungroup the name portion so the center pieces are not included when you highlight the selection. Then you can use the Boolean subtraction function.

That’s crazy, why is there so many different videos and threads saying to select it all and copy and create a new overlying copy then delete…

Thank you btw…

So when I go to add the G as background… you know what, let me try and see if i can figure it out first lol.
