Boundary Waters Map

This is a gift for a friend who always generously loans his gear when we go into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in northern Minnesota. His last name is Sawyer, but the outfits is just a droll nod to his generosity.

  • 30" x 10" x 3"
  • White Pine slab.
  • Walnut with birch inlay.
  • Quilted Maple dyed blue letters.

99% done. Gonna cut a quick pocket on the back for a cleat and deliver it.

The black line is the first epoxy-as-color-fill I’ve done. Cheap pen epoxy.

The legal entries to the park are marked by a copper wire inserted and sanded.

Lakes carved with a 60V bit and a interior pocket. Painted and covered in water poly. Then sanded. Big lakes also got waves added with toilet paper and wood glue.

What a great gift and project, lots of detail and thought put into it! Well done.

Great work I like the combination of the different materials… I think I see a live edge in one of the photos! Please post a finished project picture I would like to see that.
