What is the difference between a 1 in bowl bit and a 3/4 in bull nose bit? Both have 3/8 cutting radius. Can they both be used as bowl bit?
Thanks
Kevin

Looks like Bull nose is a full 180 degree radius for cutting.
The Bowl bit has a radius for the bottom and a different ( smaller radius ) for the top.
The bowl bits I have are flat on the bottom with the radius at the edge, bull nose bits are usually a full arc radius.
Bull nose bits have a radius smaller than half the diameter, so they have a flat between the radii.
I’ve seen “Bowl Bit” used both to describe Ball nose (full radius, no flat) or Bull Nose cutters.
So it sounds like your 1" bowl bit is a Bull Nose bit with a 3/8" corner radius. 1/4" flat.
And your 3/4" bull nose is actually a 3/4" Ball Nose (no flat)
Better explanation than I provided, I do add both to CC tool library in the Ball Nose section in custom tools.
Indeed. CC doesn’t support Bull Nose, so you can enter them either as End Mills or Ball Mills.
Either way, the simulation won’t look right unless you add a dummy operation using the corner radius.
