Bringing a Shapeoko 3 out of mothballs, what things should I check?

I have a Shapeoko 3 standard size with the the Carbide3D router. I’ve made some minor modifications including the installation of a JTech laser. Otherwise it’s pretty much stock.

The unit has been stored vertically in a closet for the last two years. The storage direction has the X-Axis at the bottom nearest the ground. I’m finally creating a workspace in the attic and I want to bring it back online.

What checks and maintenance should I perform?

Roundness of the V wheels, how tensioned the belts are.

My suggestion would be to get a Maintenance Kit:

which will allow rebuilding a machine to like new.

Thanks Will. I’ll check the wheels and tighten the belts when I get it up and running and if things look dodgy I’ll order a kit.

If you’ve got any suspicions once you start it up, it might be worth checking you get a consistent belt tension across all three axes to tell you the belts are still in good order. When they age the belts lose their ability to consistently hold tension under their preload extension.

There’s some hints on measuring belt tension here if you need to:
