I’m about to list my Shapeoko 5 Pro 4x4 for sale, but to get it out of my basement I had to fully disassemble it, my question is for people’s opinion would buy one disassembled or should I reassemble it in the garage before listing? If I reassemble the machine and not the table it will just be on the ground and then is very heavy for the next person to move and may not fit if they bring a van for pickup, but it can run a demonstration and see that yes all the parts are there, so I see pros/cons to both ways.
Depends on pricing, under 3k their risk, over 3k id have it assembled
Take a good, clear, long video of it cutting and lots of high quality still photos time and date stamped. Then disassemble it. Offer it both ways with the buyer paying a premium for assembly. It’s your time. Personally, I would rather assemble it myself if I was reasonably sure it was going to run ok.
Buying a disassembled machine is a pig in a poke. Personally I would not buy a disassembled machine. It would be better to put it back together for sale but it depends on the buyer. You could list it and see what response you get but if it were me I would reassemble it so it can be demonstrated.
I’d suggest dissembling enough to get it out of the basement but try to keep as many large subassemblys together as you can.
It’s comforting to see a few bigger pieces that just need bolted together compared to each individual nut and bolt in sandwich bags
There are things I don’t mind buying disassembled but when it comes to kit products, I’m much more nervous. If there are only 10 parts or something, it’s easy to gut check that everything is there.
If there are hundreds of pieces, I’m probably not interested. I don’t buy used jigsaw puzzles for the same reason
I tried to keep large subassemblies… the only thing that I could keep attached was the spindle, everything else had to come apart due to a corner/stairs combo as well as to fit it in a minivan for moving. It seems best that I will reassemble the machine in a garage and can do live demo for a new owner, they may have to disassemble it to take it home though
Thanks for the opinions.
