CaDoodle is a local drag-and-drop CAD application inspired by TinkerCAD. for Linux, Windows, Mac and ChromeOS. Users models are stored on their own computer, and the application runs without an internet connection.
This application is Java based and uses BowerStudio as the CAD kernel.
In April 2025 I hit a level of feature completeness to open it up for Beta testing.
If you find this one lacking, my recommendations are:
Alibre Atom 3D — we sell that, and it includes MeshCAM which makes it convenient to use for the Shapeoko as well (it’s bundled w/ the Nomad)
Moment of Inspiration — really need to find the time/occasion to try this — for the well-heeled there’s also Rhino (which for the sake of Grasshopper, I really wish I’d just invested in when I first needed a CAD program…)
Plasticity — actually bought a Studio license for this, but it’s been too fast-moving a target for me UI-wise — maybe something to try learning over a vacation or something
Dune 3D — simultaneously surprisingly simple and straight-forward, but also quite capable, this is the one traditional 3D CAD program which I made it through the tutorial w/o insurmountable (to me) difficulties
FreeCAD — markedly tidied up for v1.0, this is exactly what it says on the tin
There’s also Solvespace, which I want to like, but I found the tutorials baffling…
