Can I raise the router?

Is secure to raise the router 1" or 2"? I have seen some videos about this, has anyone tried this before? It could be a little bit dangerous I guess.

The router is supposed to be as low as possible to ensure that one can machine down to the surface of the spoilboard and to activate the BitSetter — the router can be lifted up, so long as one is still able to activate the BitSetter w/ the shortest tooling you are planning on using.

Just dont raise it so much that the bit is above the gantry. If you do the gantry might slam into a tall work piece. Also be careful not to set retract so high you skip steps when the z hits mechanical limit.
