Can I safely move the Y axis with a wrench?

Rookie mistake!

After relocating my 5 Pro 24x48, I initialized. Everything was fine until a horrible sound came from the rear left corner. I immediately hit stop and investigated. Apparently, I neglected to zip-tie the cord to my shop vac, and it got caught between the gantry and the Y-axis motor casing.

I need to jog forward a few millimeters to free the power cord, but I can’t get to the Jog functionality in Carbide Motion without completing the initialization. Based on the sounds coming from the machine before I hit stop, I really don’t want to hit Initialize until I free the cord.

It looks like I could attach a wrench to the drive screw on the left-hand side and move the gantry that way, but I am not sure if this will damage the motor.

I hoped someone with more experience could help me limit any damage I might have already done.

Power down, that will unlock the motors, then you can slowly/gently shift the machine.

Thx Will!
That worked. She’s sounding normal again. My shop vac, on the other hand, is out of commission.

Appreciate the help.

Turn it off and that should allow you to manually move things?

Since your shopvac is toast now you have an excuse to buy a Dewalt Stealthsonic Vac…soooooo quiet

You could repurpose the bottom half of the old shop vac to a dust collection bid.
