Can no longer save gcode

Ok…so, I just updated CC to the latest V7 and though I see some new changes to the interface, I managed to find my way around. Got to the point where I was ready to save my CC file so that I could use it in CM and there were now Radio options Save this file, save as new file and save as Gcode, with Save as Gcode being greyed out saying something about Pro only??? So…Am I now NOT allowed to export my creations from CC to CM so that I can machine them or am I misunderstanding or missing something? I don’t want to assume that I’m being forced to purchase the pro version, but it does seem that way, still…I thought I would ask???

Hi Teddy, see below for one of the posts regarding info on this:

See also the Carbide Create 7 Beta thread for more discussion. There were many thoughts on both sides.

It’s no longer necessary to write out G-code — instead, the toolpaths are stored in the .c2d file and that is sent (using a recent version of Carbide Motion):

G-code is now held in the C2D file

G-code is now stored in the C2D file, not in an external G-code file. This has been a request for a while but it had to wait for a new file format to make it work and it brings a couple of benefits:

  • Only one file is required for a project so the G-code and the project should not go “out of sync”.
  • Because the G-code and the project are stored together, you can always load it back into CC to edit something and then run it again.

Hmmm…it did some weird stuff. I sent the job. It showed up in CM, but said something about Stock Block and had a bunch of numbers (i should have screenshot it) When I started the job, it did not run as it should and instead made a dash to somewhat center and then toward the East of the machine. Im now curious was I suppose to reset or change something in CM after the update? Like resend data config or something?

Oh and here’s the job. Nothing more than me trying a simple finger joint operation to see if I can use the machine to make a drawer box. Probably one of the simplest jobs “I’ve” ever run lol. Just a contour to half inch. Not yet sure what made it
DRAWER FACES.c2d (52 KB)
run awry

Did you update to the latest version of CM ?
To use files generated from CC v7 you need to use Carbide Motion 565 or later

Yes, I did both softwares.

Oh WOW!!! that was super duper weird. So I simply closed CM, restarted it and tried to run my job again (the job was so simple but I still took a glance at all my settings to confirm I didn’t screw up) and now it’s running, but you know what??? That cut it made when I told you it went “somewhat center and to the east” Believe it or not, for some odd reason, that was actually “part” of the cut for the drawer piece. When It ran this time, it actually started from the West side and finished the cut to the East. Either way, not sure what happened, but it’s running now guys. Will keep you updated when I go to do other parts

When CC creates toolpaths they are more or less cut in the order of the toolpaths. However within each toolpath CC has a mind of its own about moving around and starting and stopping cutting particular areas. The main thing is in the end did it cut what you set it up to do. The particular order of cutting is some how determined by CC and you cannot really change the order of cutting other than the ordering of individual toolpaths. So you always want the least intrusive paths cut and the most intrusive paths cut last. So vcarve first, drill any holes you need and cut out the project last. If you cut out the project first and then start vcarving or other cutting the part might come loose from the material and be ruined.
