I’ve had multiple questions for the forum and I keep getting asked to post screen captures. I would, except I don’t know how to do them. Lol
Usually the Print Screen button on the keyboard will take a picture of your desktop and give you a prompt as to where you want to save it.
What operating system? Windows (what version), Mac, something else?
Shift + Command + 3 on a mac will take a screen shot.
And Shift + Command + 4 will let you do a part of the screen.
The old tool for this on Windows is “the Snipping Tool”
%windir%\system32\SnippingTool.exe
which is available under Windows Accessories — it’s apparently due to eventually be replaced by some new program.
The Prt Sc key will also capture the entire screen to the clipboard so that it may be pasted:
For Mac OS X, command shift 3 and command shift 4 as noted will work, and if you have a button bar, you can select to get just a window — there’s also a utility, Grab Tool, which will let you grab windows w/ a delay:
As @WillAdams said the old Snipping tool works. It has been replaced by the Snip and Sketch tool. Just go to the bottom of the screen and in the “Type here to Search” type in Snip. Pick the Snip and Sketch Tool. When the application starts hit the “New” Then on the left is a button that looks like a rectangle and pick that to just snip what you want instead of the whole screen then the screen darkens and a + symbol appears. Move the + to the area you want to snip and drag to get just the area you want. Then just save it with a name by hitting the icon that looks like a floppy disk. You can upload to the forum by Opening a new Post or Reply to one of your own posts. Then just hit the upload button and type in the name of the file you captured. The picture will upload and it is on your post. Then just hit Reply and the post will close and be posted to your thread.
On Windows 10 and above it is [Windows-Key] [Shift] [S] (ie: press them all at once).
edit: If you want to record a video, you can use [Windows-Key] [G] to use the inbuilt video capture tool (typically used to record games).
I guess I should of put in which OS I am using. It is Windows 10. Thank you for all of the replies.
As mentioned, PrtScn (Print Screen) will capture all of screen. Annoying if you have two or more monitors. Or use Alt+PrtScn and capture only the item with current focus.
