Please try increasing the stock size and the size of the first component:
Then model the depression:
Then trim away what you don’t need at the top:
(obviously should have held the addition short of the edge of the stock)
@WillAdams That seems to result in the shape desired, but will the gcode file try to cut away all of that stock that isn’t really there? Will the machine basically cut air?
Extend the geometry which defines where you wish to cut past where you want the cut by the endmill radius plus 10% for each 3D toolpath which is cutting the surface.
For cuts which you wish to have cut all the way around, extend beyond the geometry by largest endmill diameter plus 10%
Okay… That was super helpful… and now I have this shape in the file
Which is perfect…
Except when I go to 3d carve the pockets I want… I get this
Whats going on? Because I managed to not get that on the first file I built, but I don’t think I did anything different, but clearly… I did.
Is this where you’re saying I need to subtract 10 percent?
You need to ignore the stock which isn’t actually present.
No, I’m sorry. I’m not worried about the block that doesn’t exist. I’m talking about the fact that its somehow carving out the walls between each cylinder that should be there. Heres the original file I did that worked somehow.
