I’d like to fix my limp z issue and install a Nema 23 stepper with a brake. Can the HDM support an open loop stepper that requires 3.5 amps? If not, what is the amp requirement? (Limp z = z falling when powered off.)
C3D has a fix that is just $1200.00.
@Luke says they may retrofit the older HDZ at some point with a gas cylinder to help with the falling Z. So hopefully they will retrofit your falling Z at some point. Many have suggested a piece of foam under the parked Z or a block of wood. You would jog down to the foam/wood before shutting down so the Z has a soft landing.
There are inline brakes that can be used so you are retaining the factory stepper. It’s good yours moves when powered off it means the Z axis was put together with good alignment. My unit has never had droop from day 1 even with an ATC mounted and it has been well oiled and maintained. It only droops if it’s pushed down about an inch or so from the top then it is smooth.
