No matter how deep I set max depth in “Create” the cutter seems to have icxx own max and it’s much less than I want or what the max depth is in “Create”. I’ve tried the latest version of Create with the same results.
Is it hitting the lower physical limit of the Z axis? If so, you may need to move the router/spindle down.
If you are using V-carve to cut between 2 close vectors, it will only go deep enough to touch both vectors. It will only use the max depth if it is less than that distance.
Worked just fine 2 days ago. I’ve been trying different fonts and when I came back to the old file this depth thing happened.
Upload a pair of files?
One which worked, a new one which doesn’t?
Wish I had the old file but here is the one that does not work.[/Volumes/cnc1/jims insceiption copy.c2d](https:///Volumes/cnc1/jims insceiption copy.c2d)
Pasting in the link for your hard drive will not work to share the file — it needs to be either attached to this message (arrow up icon) or uploaded to a network drive or similar site and set to be publicly accessible.

sorry I didn’t know
William, In trying to solve this problem I accidentally set my bit setter to the wrong location and was hoping you could guide me to a means of resetting it ti the proper location.
To address the BitSetter re-run the Setup Wizard:
I’m using Carbide motion v5. is there a tutorial
It’s all narrow text. Looks like the deepest/widest spot is the apostrophes. This is at 0.040" max and you can see it hitting that in the apostrophes. About 0.045" is as deep as it will ever go. You can set the max depth to 10", and it will still only go 0.045"
If you want the letters a little wider, you could set your Z zero a little bit below the top of stock.
Otherwise, the only way to get it to cut deeper would be with a smaller angle V-bit.

Thank you for the response
I cannot download the latest version of Motion because I have a workpiece in place and there is carving already on it. I’m afraid if I download a new version I will lose my zero and won’t be able to finish the piece. Is there a way to reset my bit setter without downloading the newer version?
I’m also an x jarhead '55-'59
edit the position in the underlying .json file?
Click on the Carbide Motion version # link to access the folder which has at file.
way above my pay grade William. I have version 582 of Carbide Motion and it doesn’t have the “set up new machine” text on the bottom of the Motion page.
Hi Tod1d,
I was wondering this myself … Would setting the Starting Depth to something other than 0.000 in here accomplish the same thing as “setting the Z zero a little below the top of stock”?
That way you could have a “true Z Zero” for other operations and be able to widen just a particular VCarve.
Yes, it would. It will trace the width of the vectors at the start depth, making the width at the top of stock wider.
It will also calculate the depth per pass starting from the start depth, so the first cut will be deeper if that material hasn’t been removed.
