I (naively) upgraded CM, as I haven’t used my Nomad in a while. I landed on the Downloads page, which has a link “Carbide Motion 5, Get Carbide Motion Here”. I upgraded CM.
Turns out what I got is Build: 613 Released: 6-16-2023 (MacOS version), which seems to be “version 6”.
Now a “setup wizard” runs every time I launch CM. It connects to the machine, homes it correctly, and I can save the setup. It says “your machine should now be ready to run”. But it isn’t — the main screen always says “No configuration found”.
I wanted to downgrade, but it seems all available versions have the “setup wizard” thing and are version 6.
Guys, I know bugs happen. I get that. But when you introduce big changes like that, that can totally disable my workflow, please make sure I can downgrade to a known previous version. Right now I’m sitting at the workshop where I came to run some jobs, and I can’t do anything, and likely won’t be able to for the next several days until support responds, or the bug is fixed.
I’m sorry if this sounds like a rant — I guess in a way it is (although I don’t mean to be impolite) — because I came here to use my Nomad and get things done, and instead I’m writing software bug reports.
Until we have a new version, folks should revert to 582 if need be (but please, if you are reading this and haven’t updated, please try it and let us know how it goes at support@carbide3d.com )
It is crazy that there’s not an official way to download earlier versions of CM. I got set back hours because of this issue. Carbide: is anybody listening? You should have a repository of earlier versions so that people don’t have to download versions of CM off this forum.
It’s a serious security risk you encourage your customers to take when they have to download an .exe from others members off the forum instead of the official CM software page.
I’m having the exact same issue. Nomad 883, Windows 11 version 616. I see the setup work while the setup dialog is open (you can see the same in video above) and then it’s back to “no configuration found”. I’m back to v5. It was a frustrating afternoon digging through all this.
