So far I have been using my Nomad for engraving. No spindle rotation.

After exporting the gcode I simply delete the line that starts the spindle in TextEdit.

If I upgrade and there is no gcode file how will I prevent the spindle from spinning?

Contour tool paths in V7 now allow zero RPM so you should be ok.
