I know that Vcarve depth is automatically limited by the two Vcarve lines, but is it also automatically limited by the size of the Vee ?
Nope not if you use traditional vcarve.
If you want to control depth (and, well, really always) β use Advanced Vcarve. That lets you cut as deep as you set it, and it will do the right thing for the size of the V almost by accident β¦
so β¦ just better to always use Advanced V carve.
Yes, as one can see if one draws a square:
and assigns a V carving toolpath:
So, the argument for keeping normal V carving is that it can be used for such decorative effects β not sure if itβs worth the tech support hastles, but that was why I argued to keep it.
Simple vcarve goes down center of line until it touches both sides of line if you use bottom of material as max depth. If you limit depth in simple vcarve you get unexpected results.
If you want to limit depth then use advanced vcarve. The v bit goes around perimeter of lines and not center.
Thanks. I would basically just like Vcarve to cut to the depth I set, no matter what ?
For that you would either use an Advanced V carving, or, you can use a Contour toolpath with a V carving tool.

I made a filet board for someone. when testing I was unhappy with the grooved lines that I got. My solution was to lie to the program and use a 60 degree instead of a 90. The program acted like it had a 90 creating the cut I needed.
Hope this helps
