Carbide Create Not Loading on Mac OS

After a few months of very happy milling with my Nomad 3, Carbide Motion has suddenly stopped loading on my MacBook.

I get the same error message each time I try to launch - “Carbide Create quit unexpectedly” with three options, ‘Reopen’, ‘Report’ and ‘Ignore’. I have re-installed build 640 and done all the usual standard checks. I also tried installing previous builds but with no different result. Mac OS is version 15.3.1.

Has anybody else experienced this?

Please try making a new user account (or try the app in an account in which you have not yet run Carbide Create) — if that allows it to run, then check where it is storing the preferences (Carbide Create | About | Open Data Directory) and using that location as a guide, find the preferences in the account which does not work and delete them.

Correction: I believe Carbide “Motion” is intended in the error text?

Anyway, I would try three things.

  1. Update MacOS if you can. I believe 15.4.1 is the latest.
  2. Try the beta version of Motion here: Carbide Motion Beta Downloads
  3. Try deleting the contents of the “data directory” folder of Motion. Then Reinstall Motion and launch it again.*

*Support people, please chime in if this is a bad idea…

If you don’t know how to manually navigate to the Data Directory is, the easiest way would be to fire up Create and go through there. Menu > About Carbide Create > Open Data Directory. Motion and Create share a folder.

Also, Will’s suggestion is valid, just replace “Create” with “Motion”.

I don’t remember where user tool libraries are stored these days, if you don’t have any custom tools set up it probably doesn’t matter.

If you have custom libraries, just make sure they are somewhere safe before blowing anything away

Many thanks indeed - I tried this but it did not fix the error. Very grateful for your guidance on where to find settings though!

Yes, my error in the question - I meant Motion, not Create. Apologies.

I first tried Will’s suggestion, then moved to updating OS - and that fixed it instantly. I am happily back to milling again now.

Many thanks again

I suggest making a back up copy of any files you are going to delete. If once you are up and running, you see no issues, delete them in say a week.
