I have Version 7 Pro. I pad for Perpetual License. I downloaded the latest version and my Pro version 7 has reverted to free version. I thought I could keep using the old version.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
Have you tried re-registering it with your original license code?
It’s somewhat lame how they’re doing it. You are only allowed to keep the Pro Version and any updates from the date of purchase up to your first anniversary date. If you try to update CC, then you lose the Pro option.
I have a 757 CC Pro, and they have made numerous improvements to the free version, of which I am unfortunately not eligible, at least on my Pro CC version.
The only solution is to either set up a virtual PC on your existing PC and install the Outdated Pro version on your PC, as well as the newest free version on the Virtual PC. Alternatively, you can do what I did: I keep the PRO version on my design PC, which remains at home, and then install the latest free version on the Shop PC.
The other alternative is to pay for a new one-year subscription, which will allow you to receive the latest updates. However, once the year is over, you will no longer receive any new updates. But you’ll be able to keep the pro version with updates for that year.
I think they should allow any CC free updates to pass through to legacy CC Pro users, but alas, that’s likely impossible.
I am disappointed in Carbide because they are now Puppy-Guarding everything. One of the reasons I chose Shapeoko was that the Software was free. With the new paywall, I think everyone is better off purchasing Vectric. It offers significantly better features and functionality for a comparable price point.
Vectric Desktop limits your cutting area to 24 inches x 24 inches at a price point of $349.00. Vetric Pro has an unlimited work area size and costs $699.
They also offer Cut2D for Desktop at $149 and Pro at $449.
In my opinion, Cut2D is pretty equivalent to the free CC.
CC is $360 for a perpetual license with 1 year of “free” updates. Then, you are out of luck unless you are willing to pay more.
Vectric has a similar pay wall. You receive free updates until you no longer do. I do not know how to figure that out. I have Vectric 11.5, and to upgrade to Version 12, I would need to pay an additional $115.00 to obtain the latest release. In this regard, both CC and Vectric are similar.
Winston, I did try to re-register, I got a message saying it had expired. I tired again and the folder was empty. Maybe it was moved, I couldn’t locate it.
Thanks for the reply. This is what I paid for.
Perpetual License with a year of updates - $360 USD.
Your Carbide Create Pro license will function forever. You’ll be eligible for all updates released within a year of your purchase. After a year, your version of Carbide Create Pro will continue to function but you will not receive any new updates. Additional updates are available for $120/year.
I’m not sure what I did wrong. I should have my last version of Pro forever, that’s why I paid for it. I understand I would need to pay for new updates.
You will need to identify which is the last version of Carbide Create which works with your license and re-install it, and then if necessary, register that license.
You will not be able to easily use a more recent version of Carbide Create since it looks for the Pro license on start and if the license isn’t valid for it will display the message you note.
Two possible options:
- use separate user accounts for the different versions
- manually rename your “license.txt” file in the Carbide Create folder when running the more recent version (to get the Free mode functionality) and restore the name when you want to run Pro
If you have trouble getting a version running which works with your perpetual license, let us know at support@carbide3d.com and we’ll work through that with you.
So…. I guess I’m the same boat later this year. I started with V7/Pro, currently using V8. I kept the V7, using V8/Pro.
It seems the fix to keep the pro license active forever is to update to VX released prior to license expiring.
Then to move forward with free CC updates, just download separately and open with no license. If needed for Pro update’s I will then purchase the Pro license again.
In the meantime I will have several versions of CC on my desktop for use which is fine with me. I have plenty of time to grow into this software.
Will, I deleted V8 and reinstalled V7. So it worked. Thankyou for your help.
