Yeah…that was a description of the text…not the text itself…I think you guys will come up with a reasonable label.
I can see a number of scenarios where you’ve taken the time to select a bunch of vectors and created a Toolpath…then want to go back later and modify that by adding or removing a vector - without having to go through the effort of reselecting all the vectors again. That’s really all I’m looking to avoid.
If you didn’t do anything with the button…what harm would clicking it do? I might click the button anyway, just to make sure I’ve got them all selected. It would have no impact if the selection is already the same. I don’t think you need that added complexity of checking the existing selected vectors and comparing it to the toolpath. Meh.
However - the real question is: If you come into the toolpath dialog with some vectors selected…and press the “select vectors currently…” button - what do you intend? Do you expect the selection to be REPLACED or APPENDED? That’s where I think things get complicated. If I remember correctly, in V6, the selection is REPLACED, correct? It probably should behave the same way V6 did - for consistency in experience.
EDIT: You could pop up a dialog in the case where vectors are already selected saying, “Replace current selection” or “Add to Current Selection” and either deselect before adding in the threshold vectors, or not.
I am one of those “non Shapeoko” users. My story.
My wife bought me a Genmitsu ProverXL for my birthday, my intro drug into CNC hardware. Looked around for software and settled on Carbide Create and Easel (I am a Mac user). Ended up buying Easel pro for one project only where I needed stacked v carve text with a large “rough out” area. I love Create, don’t like Easel for the user interface.
Upgraded my CNC, sold the Genmitsu (great machine, but too small) and shortlisted Shapeoko and Onefinity. Ended up buying Onefinity for the ball screws etc and a Carbide ER11 router plus Sweepy… I planned on upgrading to Carbide Create pro, but v7 has killed that. I now have to look at Vectric etc and a windows platform.
I understand the costs of supporting “non customers” and I want to be a customer for Pro. I believe Carbide Create is one of the best software products on the market and has real value. I happen to prefer someone else’s hardware (CNC), but with v7 I am effective no longer able to upgrade to Pro.
May I suggest you consider restricting Create to Shapeoko users but not restricting Pro.
Everybody know by now how simple minded I might be about CNC work, but that said, I just loaded up V7 Pro and vcarved my first cutting board with the software. I can say that is was very straight forward; had no problems finding the commands I wanted; it flowed very easily from the V6 experience and I really like the “one file” (gcode included file) opportunity. Fast, quick and straight forward.
Still trying to find where people were placing “notes”, which I would love to have available.
Hurray! I found the note pad icon…as usual, under my nose!
Any way that the icon might be able to change color to show some entry is in that box?? Like green or red or something just to remind you to look at it?
Also, I’m running a Windows 11 laptop and have been for the past year (was running Beta 11 for a while), and it seems to me that V7 loads a lot faster than V6 ever did. Not sure if that was a result of some change, but I certainly like it. Thanks
(FIX) Better progress feedback on pocket toolpaths + optimization for cases where there are thousands of vectors.
(NEW) New code to add more cores to pocket calculation. If there are no downsides, we’ll add it to the other toolpaths as well.
(NEW) Added “Select Current Vectors” button to toolpath windows. (This is for you @GJM)
(NEW) Added a slight bias in the toolpath linking to prefer to link across the X if there are more than two options that are close. Not sure if this is a good idea yet.
I’m sure they will. That absolutely fell under the “missing functionality” category and the more we talked about it, that button was the only logical solution.
