Carbide Create V8 Beta Feature Requests

Hi all,

Thanks for making this awesome product! I have a few software recommendations if you guys agree they would be good.

  1. It seems that when you Send to Carbide Motion, it will confirm sent to Carbide Motion, but Carbide Motion didn’t actually accept the send because it was on a different dialog than the run screen. This has cost me a few prototypes so far, and while it is easy to work around, it’s unintuitive. Expected behavior: If Carbide Motion can’t accept it because it’s not in the proper state, should return an error (or even better, overwrite previous instructions on Carbide Motion and update dialogs to accept latest send).

  2. Ability to select multiple 3D composition layers (an add, a subtract, another add, etc), so they can be enabled/disabled/deleted in bulk. Same thing for tool paths.

  3. +1 for Laser Module, but I already have read that you are waiting until you can find a good vendor who will work with you on the software.

Thanks for reading!

  1. Support for an official Carbide3D pendant to move the x/y/z axis. I like to get my face up to the machine and looking at the small movements to get the cutter exactly where I want rather than turning back around to the mouse and computer screen.

  1. Better hotkey support with tooltips that pop up with the hotkey as I hover over the button.
  2. Detachable & dockable layer dialog.
  3. Hotkeys to add vectors to a layer. ie CTRL+SHFT+1,. CTRL+SHFT+2, CTRL+SHFT+3, etc.,
  4. Tabbed project windows. Makes it easier to build a project using existing geometry to copy and paste or even just reference. Also easier to iterate through versions when prototyping.
  5. Textures on the 3D preview: A clearer plain solid color (all the existing textures are really hard to see and distort the image)
  6. Better than 9, the ability to add custom material textures.
  7. Ability to add an offset to a vector without having to create a new vector. (I have a Shaper Origin and it has the ability to create a pocket, test the fit of another part and then add an offset to the existing geometry of a few thousands without having to create new vectors. This would be a God send)

Your #11 point is already kind of implemented in v8 - but doesn’t apply to pockets, just Contours. There is a Stock to Leave parameter which applies additional offset to a toolpath.

I kind of agree with your #9 & #10 points - but I think a better solution may be having some different background color or gradient options. The available textures cover a wide range. What I find bothersome is how the program likes to revert to Cherry as some kind of default when using the Modeling tab after I’ve changed it to Aluminum or Wood Texture in the Toopaths Simulation. Wish there was a 3D model texture setting parameter that acted as the user defined default across the program.
