After the most recent update to 651 the machine auto parks the router at the home position after job completion. Previously it would ask to cut off router and then move straight back. This new movement without a pause after the job completes is very annoying and has cost me several clamps and bits so far. Please give us an option to tell the machine where to park after job completion or at least take this part new movement away.
Brandon, wouldn’t this be more of an issue for the software (CAM program) that generates the gcode? The last move in a gcode file should always be a Z retract to safety/movement height.
@JBWynne There’s been a number of requests to revert back to the previous turn off the router message before homing after a job. Have read through thi post and the links I put in my reply to it.

Not having a router in the game (I have Nomads), I do totally agree with @Jeffish that there should be a chance to turn the router off before the end of the gcode (usually M2) but that would probably be handled by a pause… It’s been a looong time since I had a manually-controlled spindle, and that was on my CNC-converted Sherline 5400…
As to the motion itself, when this came up a while back (2017) @WillAdams wrote
Yes, Grbl goes back to machine origin when M2 or M30 is sent.
There was an extended discussion here
And a smaller one here
IMHO it should still be the responsibility of the gcode generating program to raise the Z to a safe height, not knowing what might happen next… I’ve always written my post-processors so…
@Randy The Z still raises but the message to turn off the router was removed in a previous version. Spindle users don’t have the problem since the VFD controls it.
I had a message convo with @robgrz about it and his veiw on it makes sense but if enough users raise the issue and want it back maybe it will return in a future CM update ![]()
