We posted a new Motion build in time for the weekend with a few quality-of-life updates:
(NEW) Added “JOG PENDANT ENABLED” label in the jog window when the pendant is connected.
(NEW) Plugging/unplugging the pendant no longer exits Jog mode.
(NEW) Key shortcuts in the “Idle” window: J-> Jog, M-> MDI, S-> Settings, L-> Load file, R-> Start Job, Q-> Quick Actions. (All of these are subject to change in the next few releases.)
(NEW) In the “Not Connected” window, hit space to connect.
(NEW) In Jog or MDI, hit escape to go back to Idle.
(NEW) In Run, hit space to pause. It will no longer work for other buttons and tab navigation.
(FIX) Added the “Turn Off Router” pop-up before parking at the end of a job.
Rob, In Carbide3D’s opinion based on feedback and whatever in house testing that you do…what’s the Linux plan for Carbide Motion above/beyond the initial flatpack that was rolled out? I may have missed any updates, apologies if I’m asking a question that’s already been answered previously. I notice on the Downloads page that Windows and Mac are still the two options offered…
I’ve been using the CM Linux version since announced…just wondering if the referenced updates/Beta version will be offered in Linux version as well. Thanks!
Our Linux build computer got hosed during an update, so we need to get a new one setup.
I don’t think the Linux build will get rebuilt on every release (for now), but will get updates when the builds are stable and temporarily feature complete. I don’t know if I’ve described that well, but hopefully the gist is clear enough.
Personally, I’d like to add CC builds for Linux if we can manage the additional platforms.
We do plan to move all of the downloads behind a login page in the semi-near future, and that’s probably when we add the Linux and Pi builds next to Windows and Mac for full visibility.
To preempt the login-anger, this is an attempt to solve a support problem. People update software before getting back into using their machine, forget how to use the machine, blame the update for all of their problems, and then want to go back to the old version. So this lets them (and us) have a log of what versions they’ve used before.
That’s a little more than what you asked, but hopefully that gives a fuller picture of our plans.
TL;DR- if this build looks good next week, I’ll try to make sure we get a Linux build soon. Hit me up if we seem to be slacking on that.
I did a little shopping around on ebay and found several M1 MacBooks in the $300.00 price range. If all you need is a shop computer for Carbide Motion, that’s an option.
