Carbide motion, hitting Z+ sometimes spindle goes down:(

Hey guys,

After zeroing my Z axis, I hit Z+ to go up and it decides to go down instead:( It’s happened a bunch of times, no idea why, ugh! I’m checked cables, connectors, nothing. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Kelsey W.

Which machine? What Z-axis?

What input? Touchscreen, mouse, stylus, trackpad, keyboard, game controller?

Hey Will,

  • Shape 4 XXL, HDZ
  • input, Mac computer - trackpad

Usually only happens when I have set zero for Z. If I just move the Z axis up & down, no problem.

Could you provide a step-by-step which is reproducible or capture this on a video?

Will see what I can do, it’s pretty random. I thought for sure someone else has run into this before.

If this happens during initialization it is usually choosing the wrong Z. The Z-Plus and the HDZ run in opposite directions. If your machine initializes fine but randomly goes down instead of up I would look at your wiring/connectors.

During initialization the first thing that happens is the Z goes up to the homing switch and then the X and Y start for home. If during initialization the Z goes down instead of up it is the configuration and you choose the wrong Z. Rerun the configuration if it is during initialization. If not at initialization then talk to support but in the mean time check your wiring connections for a good connection.

Sorry, real job got in the way

It doesn’t happen during initialization, it initializes fine. It’s when I manually go to set zero for Z axis, Z- down, zero, and when I hit Z+, sometimes it goes down:( No rhyme or reason, very bizarre.
