Carbide Motion Navigation

Are there any shortcuts to navigate around carbide motion? For example, if I select Move Cutter, I have to home and measure the tool. If I Quit Jog, and then decide I want to jog again, it forces me to home the machine and measure the tool again. I get that CM wants to make sure you’ve homed and measured the tool for safety, but it would be nice rather to prompt me if I want to home and measure the tool.

Right now I home and measure, then quit jog (because that’s the only way my “M” key works to pop up the interface). I start the spindle, and then want to go and jog again, but it forces me to home and measure. Is there a work around?

Never mind, I restarted CM and now it lets me hit the M key from the jog window…strange.

I still would like more control over homing and tool measuring though.

Yeah, that happened to me too when I was working up a work flow for using an edge finder. Here is what I found works:

From Carbide Motion screen/interface, click (and connect), and hit the “m” key. This brings up an MDI screen. Hit the “Move Cutter” button and let the machine home and measure the tool. Now you’re back at the MDI screen.

One can enter G code (in machine coordinates), jump to the jog screen, and jump to the zero screen as necessary to move around. For instance, an “M03S2000” will start the spindle moving at 2K RPM, perfect for using the C3D edge finder.

There has been one report that leaving the Log window open slows things down.
